The Quality

Our alfalfa and bermuda fields are well groomed and weed free.  We put a lot of time and effort into our harvesting to ensure you get great quality hay.

Harvesting hay includes swathing (cutting or wind rowing), raking the windrows which fluffs the hay and eliminates any moisture under the wind rows, and baling the hay.  As we bale the hay, we check the moisture percentages which reduces excess moisture.  Quality hay should not be baled too wet or too dry, we look for around 12% to 22% moisture readings.

This is the stack cruiser also known as a bale wagon, it picks up each bale and stacks it accordingly to create 64 bale stacks.  We can also make 80 bale stacks in alfalfa hay.

After the stack cruiser does its job, it’s time to move the stacks with the stack retriever.  This machine will haul the loads back to the barn where it will be ready to stack in one of our four big hay barns.  The stack retriever is also the truck that we will use to deliver your hay.

These photographs  show hay which has completed the process above and is now ready for barn storage.  Barn stored hay can last for years,  just as long as it does not get wet.
